The area

The closest local shop is 10 min drive down the mountain where you can buy all normal provisions including bread, milk, local produce, beers, wines etc.A further 5 min drive and you come to the local Barriada of Alora where you’ll find Butchers, Bakers, Mini Supermarkets, a Green Grocers, Bars, Restaurants and Tapas Bars etc. all you need!Around the corner is the train station with hourly trains to and from Malaga and coast and also inland to Ronda and Seville. The trains are always on time, inexpensive, air-conditioned and very clean.

Alora itself is a further 2 min drive from the station. It’s a beautiful white-washed town (Pueblo Blanco) with meandering streets full of shops, larger super-markets, bars, restaurants and gift shops. The ruins of a Moorish castle, tourist information etc. can also be found here. There’s also a Monday market held weekly!

El-Chorro lakes are approx 40 min drive away, well worth a visit! Here you can swim in the lakes, fish, canoe, hire a paddle boat, mountain bike, rock climb and hike. Visit one of the many restaurants with amazing view over looking the torquoise lakes. What has to be the Jewel in the Crown has to be the recently renovated Caminito del Rey (The Kings Walkway) known once as one of the scariest walks in the world! Not for the faint hearted but well worth a visit (absolutely magnificent) and now totally safe.

The city of Malaga. The stunning city of Malaga (birth place of Picasso!) is a 35min train ride where you can shop ,visit the Port, the Beach and also visit one of the many markets or museums. Take an open top bus tour or hire a horse and carriage! There are endless things to do and see!

The City of RondaBy car or train is a beautiful city steeped with history built on the edge of a magnificent gorge …definitely well worth a visit!Further afield destinations such as Seville, Granada or Cordoba are all in easy reach from Alora. The capital Madrid is only a couple of hours away with the high speed train …Alora really does have access to everywhere.
